Branding in Alamo

We headed out as a family to some branding in Alamo NV. We stayed in a cute log cabin motel and did dutch oven cooking under the stairs. I was the only Mom that braved the trip. I think I figured out why no other women go. Its dangerous out there. The dads stand around and hang out while the kids rome the desert and crawl through trash piles full of rusty nails. The kids had a blast. I was happy to follow all of them around and give some motherly support. Sage has a thing for bugs. She collected so many beatles it was disgusting, but she loved it. She even cried when they all ran away. Uncle Brent was nice enough to bring a few horses out for some rides. I was so excited to see the branding. I sat on the post and watched while Mike took the kids for a walk. The smell and the crying calfs was getting to them. He has done it many times. I finally got the courage to ask for a turn. It is harder than it looks to take those calf's down. The smell of burning flesh and bloody balls was awesome. I loved every minute. I even grabbed a cut off ear as a survivor. All the men made sure to give Mike a hard time about his wife doing the man's work while he did the women's job. I was glad I got the chance. So fun!
